The Power of Prayer

Text: King James Version

Introduction: Here's one of the greatest privileges that a Christian has today, because of Christ Jesus dying on the Calvary's hill. You see, before Jesus died on the cross, the priest would bring offerings for the people sins for a year. God commanded to bring the first born of a lamb without blemish for a sin offering to the priest.
Leviticus 4:32:
And if he bring a lamb for a sin offering, he shall bring it a female without blemish.

The priest would go to the Holy of Holies through a thick veil in the presence of the Almighty God and ask prayers for the people and also do burnt and sin offerings. God told his prophets what to say to his people and commanded them to repent and bring offerings unto Him for their sins and their sins were forgiven for a year at a time.

2000 years ago Jesus was the sin offering for the whole world and took the past, present and future sins on himself, that knew no sin. Remember when Jesus said on the cross it is finished, God's salvation for mankind was established at that moment and when Jesus died the Holy of Holies veil was rent in half, from the top to the bottom.
1 Peter 1:19:
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Matthew:27:51: And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

Remember when John the Baptist saw Jesus for the very first time and said to his disciples:
John:1:29:
The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
So now as Christians we have access to the very throne of God just like the priest did and can talk to our heavenly Father through prayer, because of Jesus sacrifice.
Hebrews 10:10:
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

Jesus said because of His death that we as Christians will do greater things than He did, because He goes to His Father!
John 14:12:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

Now I'm going to show you the awesome Power of Prayer we have because of Jesus. The good Lord showed this to me when I went to bible college many years ago. For some reason some laymen, pastors, deacons, song leaders, sundayschool teachers, bus ministry workers and youth directors forget what God commanded in His word. Yes we all know how to pray to the Lord , but we forget the simplicity of God's word. I can tell you about my life and what God did, but it would be too long. What I can tell you is, that all my dreams came true, because of prayer and serving Him. I want nothing, except souls being saved and being in heaven with my Lord.

Seven Steps To The Power of Prayer

(1) The first thing you need in your life is Faith. The bible says you can't please God without faith.
Hebrews:11:6:
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
So how did you get your faith from the beginning. You excepted the Lord Jesus Christ in your heart, that was faith because you believe the Lord would save you and you trusted Him. Where did you get your faith to trust him?
Romans 10:17:
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
So now as a Christian you know where your faith comes from, by hearing, reading and believing God's word.

(2) So how come God doesn't hear me when I pray sometimes? The word of God says:
Psalms 66:18:
If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.
That means if you have unconfessed sin in your heart, the Lord will not hear your prayer. This is where many Christians missed the boat, not because they don't know, but they forget the basics or Satan deceives them on thinking just because they're saved God is going to answer their prayers.

(3) What must I do?
1 John 1:9:
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Here's the key to The Power of Prayer. Christians can pray each morning and ask God to forgive them, but what Christians forget is that they have to ask the Lord to forgive them each time they pray. As long as you are in this body of flesh your going to sin everyday. It could be a bad thought or you said something or you saw something, you should not have seen. You see nobody is perfect, but God only. That means if you commit the same besetting sin in your life, God is going to forgive you of that sin and cleanse you like you never sinned, because you confessed unto Him. If somebody tells you they don't sin, and they walk in the spirit all day, don't believe them. God says they make Him a liar!
1 John 1:10:
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

The reason He's faithful to forgive you because you have His son Jesus in your heart! Here's the big picture, when God looks down on you, He doesn't see you, He sees Jesus in your heart and when you ask the heavenly father to forgive you for the things that you heard, seen, spoken, or thought of that day, then 1 John:1:9 kicks in. From that point after you prayed, your cleansed, then you ask God what's on your mind and He will hear you, it's that simple.

(4) How often should we pray?
1 Thessalonians 5:17:
Pray without ceasing.
It means to be in an attitude of prayer everyday. What if an bride quit talking to her groom, that groom would think that his bride doesn't love him anymore. That's what the Lord thinks when you quit praying. We are the bride of Christ and He is the groom. The bible is the love letters to His bride, and when you quit reading His love letters and you forget to talk to the Lord Jesus Christ in prayer, you can imagine how He feels. After all He laid down His life for you!
John 15:13:
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

(5) Will God move in peoples life without prayer?
James 5:15-17:
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16: Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
17: Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
God cannot and will not unless you pray! Why did you get saved, it's because somebody was praying for you, grandmother, grandfather, sister, brother, mother, father, preacher, friends etc. God doesn't move unless you move thru prayer. You see, that's God plan to use Christians to do his work, because they have Jesus in their hearts. Here's the best part, you will do greater things than Jesus, because He's at the right hand of the Father.
John 14:12:
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.

(6) Why should we pray to God?
1 John 4:16:
And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Because we have the love of God in our hearts. His love in our hearts is the Lord Jesus Christ His only son. Why does the bride love the groom? Because He said He would take care of her and supply her needs and said to her, take my hand in marriage because I love you. Even tho you were yet in your sins He loved you! You pray because you love the Lord, because He loved you first!
1 John 4:19:
We love him, because he first loved us.

(7) How come I lack wisdom, talent, boldness, faith, understanding of the scriptures, power in my life, speaking, teaching, preaching etc.?
Praise God, you can have all these and more. There's nothing, what God can do in your life. Be careful what you pray for, because you may just get it. God is not slack concerning His promises and is willing and ready for His children to ask Him what they will. But remember, God doesn't move unless you move, and that's a fact.

Remember I tolded you the key to the power of prayer in step (3). You must do this first before you can ask in step (7). First confess your sins by praying:( "O gracious heavenly father, forgive me of my sins that I committed even this day, for the things that I said, for the things that I heard, for the things that I have seen and even the things that I thought of, O God forgive me of these things and cleanse me right now and use me for your honor and glory in Christ Jesus, I ask these things in Jesus name and for His sake I pray; Amen") Now 1 John 1:9 kicks in for you: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Halleluiah!!! Now ask God what's on your mind and the Lord will hear you every time.

Now I'm going to show you what the Lord Jesus showed me about asking! You have not because you ask not! You must ask Him, if your going to get anything, because He's not going to give it to you, because He wants to. He's trying to teach you to ask Him.

    You Must Ask!

    Matthew 7:7-11

  1. Ask, and it shall be given you; Seek, and ye shall find; Knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
  2. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
  3. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
  4. Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
  5. If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Now in verse 7 as you can see in each sentence God put the word in the verse and spelled it out for you. ASK (A), Seek (S), Knock (K), ASK. Believe me God makes it simple, but people make it hard.

I leave this verse with you:
Matthew:6:33:
But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
His Holy Word To The World The Lord said seek Him and His righteousness, and where is His righteousness? It's Jesus His son, the word of God, the Holy Bible, the King James Version, read it, claim it. What things shall be added unto you? This is real good, so listen. Every promise in the word of God is for you and don't go by your feelings, but go by thus saith the Lord God. God don't make mistakes, but men do.
Matthew:4:4:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Now you know The Power of Prayer, and believe me the devil really fought me on writing this, because he doesn't want you to know! Share this with others, let them know the secret of The Power of Prayer.

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you, and the love of God, and the Holy Spirit, and my love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
